Welcome to Temple Menorah

We are a welcoming congregation.  We invite you to come as you are.

Those who welcome their fellow human beings are like those who welcome the Divine Presence.---Talmud

Thank you for your interest in Temple Menorah, the only Reform congregation in West Rogers Park.

Located at 7350 N. California between Jarvis and Sherwin, we are easily accessible by car or public transportation. Ample parking is available in our parking lot and on adjacent streets.  [Click here to get directions or a map from your location].

Our Unique Neighborhood.   West Rogers Park is a unique neighborhood, with every major Jewish movement (and a Jewish Community Center) located within walking distance of Temple Menorah. On any given Shabbat, you will meet Reform, Conservative, Reconstructionist, Sephardic, and many types of Orthodox Jews walking through the neighborhood. Many of us treasure being part of a Reform Temple in a genuine, old-world style Jewish neighborhood where it is “in” to be Jewish. (It is also a wonderful educational experience for the children!).

Jewish Pluralism in Our Building. Our building reflects the diversity of the neighborhood. In addition to being the home of our congregation, the Temple Menorah building houses the Orthodox Cheder Lubavitch Hebrew Day School for Girls. Temple Menorah is the only place in the entire Chicagoland area where Reform and Orthodox Jews share a home.

Our Members.  Members of Temple Menorah come from a variety of backgrounds. Many are families with young children. This gives us vitality and a sense of modernity. We also have a large number of loyal empty nesters and senior citizens. This gives us stability and tradition. We especially welcome interfaith couples, who have become some of our most active members. As diverse as our membership is, one thing all members share in common is a feeling of comfort and belonging.

An Exciting Time and Place to be Jewish.  At Temple Menorah we realize that there are unparalleled freedoms and opportunities available to Jews in 21st Century America.  We believe that one can be a full participant in American life and culture and still value being Jewish. We look forward to exploring with our members ways of practicing Judaism that are meaningful and satisfying in today’s world.

A Jewish-American culture cherishes the traditional values and benefits of being part of the Jewish community while also valuing the American ideals of individualism and independence. We think that the tension between an individual’s needs for community and for autonomy creates a challenge for all of us. Temple Menorah understands the need to appreciate both Jewish and American civilizations for its members to feel truly at home.

That is why we invite you to “come as you are”.

There is a place for YOU at Temple Menorah. We invite you to join with us in worship, study, and celebrating our Jewish heritage.
